Analyzing Your Aggregation Results
Overview
This feature provides a report that summarizes survey responses that you select in aggregate form and can be filtered by several different limitations. Please review the following sections for more information and detailed instructions.
Accessing Survey Aggregations
- Open the detail page of the survey you would like to aggregate by following the instructions in our solution article here.
- Click on the AGGREGATIONS tab along the top of the survey's detail page which opens the Aggregations feature. In smaller screens, you may need to click the right carrot > (circled in red below) at the far right of the page tabs to scroll to this tab.
Producing Aggregate Results
You can get results of all the survey content and completed sessions in aggregate (see section immediately below) or you can customize and limit the content used in the aggregation (see next section).
Full Aggregate Results of All Completed Sessions
If you would like to get aggregate results of ALL the completed survey sessions of this survey and have those results include ALL of the survey questions and calculations, complete the following steps.
- Scroll down past all the aggregation sections without changing any settings.
- Click the QUERY button.
Customize & Limit Aggregation Results
If you would like to pick what survey items are included in the aggregation or apply filters to the sessions that are included in these results, please see the explanation of each of these customizable sections below.
Survey Data
In this first section, you can customize what survey questions and calculations are included in your aggregate results by moving items from the 'Available variables' box on the left, to the 'Variables to aggregate' box on the right. Each survey questions will be listed in the order that they appear in the actual survey followed by the calculations produced from this survey. If not change is made here, ALL survey items will be included in these aggregate results.
Note: By default, the variables (the shortened system value) of survey questions will be displayed. To view what the text, or label, of the survey questions, check the 'Display question labels' checkbox.
- To add one (or more) survey items to your aggregation:
- Click on the item (or hold Ctrl to select multiple items) under 'Available variables'.
- Then click on the arrow pointing to the 'Variables to aggregate' which will move that item (or multiple items) over to that list to include in the aggregation results.
- Click on the item (or hold Ctrl to select multiple items) under 'Available variables'.
- To move ALL survey items to the aggregate container on the right (including calculations), click Add All.
- To remove an item from your results, select the item on the right (or hold Ctrl to select multiple items) and then click the arrow pointing to left <.
- To rearrange the order that items will appear in the aggregate results, click the item on the left and then select the up or down arrows to change the order of that item.
- Decide if partial data (responses from incomplete survey sessions) should be included. If it should be included, check the 'Include Partial Date' checkbox.
- If more limitations should be applied, continue to the next section or click the QUERY button at the bottom of the sections to get your aggregate results.
Date Range
In this section, you can limit the aggregation results to only display data from sessions either started or completed within a certain date range. These can be left empty to include all sessions submitted from the time this survey was first published.
- If you are including partial data, use the SURVEY STARTED ranges to limit the sessions.
- If you are not including partial data, use the SURVEY COMPLETED ranges to limit the sessions.
- Once you've selected the date range to use (see above), enter the 'From' date by either:
- Clicking on the mini calendar icon and selecting a date.
- Entering the date in with your keyboard in the mm/dd/yyyy format.
- Clicking on the mini calendar icon and selecting a date.
- Repeat this for the 'To' date field.
- If more limitations should be applied, continue to the next section or click the QUERY button at the bottom of the sections to get your aggregate results.
Case Referrals
In this section, you can limit the sessions used in this aggregation based on the Referral Type and/or the Referral Source assigned to the case of the individual who submitted the session.
- Use the drop down menus under 'Referral Sources' and 'Referral Types' to select the options that should be included. Open the menu by clicking into the field.
- If more limitations should be applied, continue to the next section or click the QUERY button at the bottom of the sections to get your aggregate results.
Response Filters
In this last section, you can limit the survey sessions used in this aggregation based on one or more responses in the survey. We recommend running a quick query first before applying these filters so that you can refer to the aggregation results to find the Variable Name of the survey question(s) you would like to filter by. These are the bolded values found along the top of the aggregate items that look like ANS.ALC_CONS.MEMORY. See the next section on Analyzing Your Aggregation Results for more information.
- Add new filter by clicking ADD FIELD.
- Then click into the box under 'Field' and select the survey answer or the survey calculations you would like to filter by. This is done by using the dynamic language of Impact. For survey answers, you will click ANS and then select the Variable Name assigned to the question you want to limit it by.
- Once you've selected that option, select or enter in the values associated with that field option that should be included in this aggregation. Note: If a True/False question or a specific survey answer is selected, the value options will be True or False. If you selected a numeric or text entry option, then a number or text can be entered under 'Value'.
- Add another filter by clicking ADD FIELD again or remove a filter by clicking the grey minus icon to the right of the filter.
- If more limitations should be applied, go back to the earlier sections or click the QUERY button at the bottom of the sections to get your aggregate results.
Analyzing Your Aggregation Results
Once you've hit the QUERY button, your aggregations results will appear in the area beneath the customization sections. By default, survey answers will appear in the order they are displayed in the survey followed by survey calculations. However, questions and calculations can be removed or rearranged in the Survey Data section. If there is conditional display logic on a question, it will be indicated by a fuchsia eye icon on the top left corner which, when moused over, will display what that logic is.
Sting Values
These are survey responses that consists of a word or letters. Examples of this are Likert scales such as 'Strongly Agree', 'Agree', and so on.
In the aggregate report, string values will be displayed in frequency tables. Frequency tables provide the 'frequency' or number of responses for a particular response option and the percentage of students that selected that response choice. Please see the frequency table screenshot and explanations below.
A. Variable Name | The name that was applied to the survey item. |
B. Variable Label | The label or content of the question. |
C. Response Choices | Includes the select one or select many options |
D. Frequency | Number of responses for each response choice |
E. Percent | Percent among ALL survey submissions. This will include students that did not respond to this question. |
F. Valid Percent | Percent among ONLY those that responded to this question. |
G. Totals | Totals of each column |
Numeric Values
These are survey responses or calculated variables that appear in numeric form. Examples of this are responses to the survey question 'Number of Drinks' or the calculated variable of their 'Typical BAC.
In the aggregate report, these numerical values will be displayed in a table that provides descriptive statistics such as the minimum and maximum scores, mean and median. The screenshot below displays an example of a table provided for numeric values.
A. Variable Name | The name that was applied to the survey item. |
B. Variable Label | The label or content of the question. |
C. Variable or Row Name(s) | If a single item question, it will be the variable name again. If it's an array question with multiple rows, it will be the row names and labels. |
D. N | Sample size |
E. Descriptive Statistics | Minimum, maximum, mean, median and mode. |
